At Lawnswood Childcare children’s welfare and in individual needs are the centre of all our practice. All of Lawnswood’s nurseries have a designated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCO). The designated person ensures that the correct support is being provided for children with additional needs.

Lawnswood is also special, in that we have a designated SEND manager for the organisation Victoria Richards. Vicki has worked for Lawnswood Childcare for twelve years and is a Level 5 qualified Early Years practitioner who has completed in depth training for her role as SENDCO and SEND Manager. During her twelve years service she has attended training through the local authority for SENDCO’s and has attended the Autism Education Trust tiered training including Leading Good Autism Practice and Making Sense of Autism. Vicki is also currently undertaking her level three qualification in Early Years SEND through the National Association for Special Educational Needs (NASEN) in partnership with early years team at Solihull MBC.

Vicki’s roles as SEND manager is to support our settings SENDCO’s in their roles by providing additional ideas, resources and support. Vicki is also able to spend 1:1 time with children and their families to ensure the best possible experience at nursery.

All of our settings promote inclusive practice and our skilled SENDCO’s ensure that each individual child’s needs are met. We work closely with families and other professionals to ensure consistency, support and equality of opportunity to all children.
