Learning and Activities
When your child comes to Lawnswood, they are treated as a unique individual. We offer every child, and their family, the personal care and attention they need to thrive in the crucial early years.
Your child’s care, learning and development journey is at the heart of all we do. We work hard to ensure our environment is one where all children are given love, care and a broad educational experience that reflects the diversity of the society in which we live.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS) and offer parents the opportunity to receive regular observations and updates on their child through our Eylog app. At Lawnswood we aim to foster children’s creativity, curiosity, exploration, critical thinking and overall wellbeing. We encourage children to express their individual thoughts, feelings and ideas in a variety of ways, including art, music, dance, role play, construction and in our outdoor environments.
Equality, inclusivity and democracy are central values within our practice. We see every child as a unique capable individual, with their own thoughts and feelings. We believe girls and boys have an equal right to develop the skills they need to live a full and happy life. We do not tolerate racism or discriminatory behaviour and believe that everyone regardless of their economic background, religion, sexual orientation, physical or intellectual ability, deserve the same opportunities. We work hard to ensure that these values are promoted within our relationships with children, their families and our staff.
Eylog and Learning Journeys
At Lawnswood we use an online system called Eylog to create your child’s learning journey. Staff add observations and track the progress of all children in the nursery through Eylog. This enables us to build a picture of the overall development of children at nursery and see whether there are areas where we can support their development and offer tailored learning opportunities.
Our parents can access all of this information about their child through a downloadable app. This ensures that parents are kept up to date with their child’s progress. Parents can also add their own observations and add key moments of their child’s development from home. Eylog is also a brilliant way to support families transitioning to nursery life. We make an effort to ensure that photos, videos and observations are sent to families to reassure you that your child is happy and well cared for.
The Great Outdoors
At Lawnswood we highly value the need for outdoor play. Our children have access to the outdoors in all weathers. We really enjoy putting on our wellies and overalls and finding the biggest, muddiest puddles we can!
Our children are encouraged to take risks and managed their own choices when exploring in the outdoors, all closely supervised and supported! Outdoor play encourages children to explore the natural world and is ideal for supporting their physical development.
